Stuff to Read While You’re Pretending to Work 5-18-10

With my brother’s wedding back home in New York this weekend, as well as Puerto Rico right around the corner, my plate is pretty full this week trying to get things done a head of time. As such, today is going to be short and sweet. Which is to say, here’s some stuff to read:

5 Foods You Should Be Eating – Brian St. Pierre

My boy is all growns up. I remember the first time that Brian walked into CP two and a half years ago to observe for the day. I think we had been open for like 3-4 weeks, and had barely started training clients out of our original location. Matter of fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the paint was still drying on the walls that day.

As it was, we were “McGyvering” training sessions with a set of power blocks, a sled, a few barbells, a rubber ducky, a roll of duct tape, and one power rack we had bought to tide us over. Luckily (at least for us), the day that Brian came was the same day that our other racks, chest supported row, GHR, and specialty bars arrived from elitefts. Long story short, on a day he thought was going to be spent watching us coach, Brian instead, spent the afternoon helping Pete assemble power racks.

Of course, in the end, Brian became our first full-time intern, which then resulted in him eventually becoming our first full-time employee, which then resulted in me having someone to boss around! Shit rolls down hill you know. That didn’t last for long, though.

In any case, congrats goes out to Brian for having his first article published on tmuscle.com this week!

Study: Calorie-Burning Fat Could Help You Lose – TIME Magazine Online

They might just as well have titled this article Study: Unicorn Hunt, cause there is no way in hell this is going to happen.

On an aside, for those interested in reading more about white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), and why focusing on BAT as a legitimate strategy for weight loss is pretty much pointless, I’d highly recommend Lyle McDonalds’s The Stubborn Fat Solution.

Living the Romantic Comedy – Billy Mernit

This isn’t an article, rather a really great blog about movies. In particular, a blog about romantic comedies. What can I say, I have a soft spot for them!

In all seriousness, this is a very witty, intelligent, and well written blog that I think any movie lover would enjoy.

Did what you just read make your day? Ruin it? Either way, you should share it with your friends and/or comment below.
