Stuff To Read While You’re Pretending To Work

I figured I’d change the pace today and keep it short and sweet. Truth be told, I have a boat load of programs to write this morning, and it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a shower. In any case, below are a few good reads that I think you’ll learn a thing (or two) from.

Short Foot Posture – Patrick Ward

Pigging back (kinda) on what I wrote about last week with regards to flat feet and the use of orthotics, here Patrick discusses a simple drill you can use either yourself or with your clients to help “re-pattern” proper foot mechanics and get people out of their flat foot posture.

Interval Training: HIIT or Miss – Mike Boyle

This is an article that I’ve read probably 17 times in the past few years, and I’m always amazed at how Coach Boyle has such an uncanny ability to hit the nail on the head every time. We all know WHY we should be incorporating more interval training into our routines (talkin to you, tubby), but what I like most about this article is that it covers the HOW.

SPOILER ALERT: get an Airdyne Bike

FYI: for more information on this topic (as well as other knowledge bombs by Coach Boyle), check out Functional Strength Coach 3.0. He’s kinda smart.

“Metabolic” Training Gone Bad – Patrick “PJ” Striet

Conversely, in this article, PJ discusses the downside of interval training. We all know the saying: Too much of a good thing can be bad.

Exceptions to this rule, obviously, include:

– Meatloaf

– Puppy dog kisses

– Reruns of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and

– Ines Sainz’ uh, personality. Yeah, that’s it.

All kidding aside, PJ does a fantastic job explaining how if OPTIMAL strength and performance are your primary goals, it might be a good idea to limit your metabolic conditioning. Or at the very least, understand when to place it in a properly structured program.

Normal Eating – Christine Beauchamp

I originally read this article over on Nia Shank’s site, and figured I’d “steal” it and forwarded it to my readers as well. I’m not going to beat around the bush, this was one of THE best articles I’ve read in quite some time, and a topic I feel has relevance to just about anyone who leads this kind of lifestyle.

Moreover, it’s great to see yet another female out there preaching to other women that it’s alright to lift heavy things, eat food, and curse like a sailor. I think I’ve officially got a new internet crush. Sorry Nia (Shanks), Jen (Sinkler), Leigh (Peele), and Zuzana:

Did what you just read make your day? Ruin it? Either way, you should share it with your friends and/or comment below.

Plus, get a copy of Tony’s Pick Things Up, a quick-tip guide to everything deadlift-related. See his butt? Yeah. It’s good. You should probably listen to him if you have any hope of getting a butt that good.

I don’t share email information. Ever. Because I’m not a jerk.
